Make Your Braids and Twists Last Longer with These Tips

Make Your Braids and Twists Last Longer with These Tips

It’s officially braid season! Thank the Lord. Because as much as I love my signature Diana Ross ‘fro, nothing makes me more excited than 3 full months of braids and twists to give my hair a break. They are great protective style options and with the heat that we experience in the summer, they’re the best and easiest option for the weather that’s ahead. As great and simple as braids and twists are, they still require a certain amount of maintenance for upkeep of the style and your natural hair. Here are four important tips for making your braids last:
Protect them at night with a silk scarf or bonnet
This may seem like the obvious, but I am surprised at the number of people who do not follow this rule - and then are pissed when they have to shell out $150 to get their braids redone after only a few weeks. The silk scarf protects your hair from wild sleeping at night, manages frizz, and maintains the appearance of your braids while keeping your roots intact. My stylists recommends using a silk scarf to tie your hair down at night, because braids are usually longer in length than other styles. But, there are now braid bonnets available for purchase that are large enough to contain your braids at night. For me personally, a silk scarf is still easier to use but the bonnets are a good option as well. Wrapping your hair at night will keep your hair looking fresh and durable.
    **Don’t over-style **
Wearing your hair down or in a bun everyday is boring, I know. The good thing about braids and twists is that they allow for versatility - but too much manipulation can loosen up the braids sooner than they should. The point of braids and twists, aside from style, is that they are meant to be a protective style option. If you’re pinning, twisting, and doing too many styles with your braids, they can have an adverse effect. Not only does overstyling give you less time with your braids and twists, it can also damage your natural hair in the process. Your braids or twists are styles in themselves, so keep the styling to a minimum.
    **Touch Ups **
You don’t have to run to your stylist every four weeks for completely new braids. The braids or twists around your edge and the front and back of your hair are normally the ones that look a little more rough and in need of sooner upkeep. The ones in the middle are not as exposed or affected by styling, so they tend to look newer, longer. Get a touch up on a few rows in the front, sides, and back of your hair before you do away with them all. It’ll save you time and money.

Make sure the style matches your hair texture

The beauty of braids and twists is that they mirror your natural hair...or at least they should. As with weaves, you can choose a texture or style that’s completely different than your natural hair. There’s a meme that was floating around social media that read, “How do you have Indian bundles with African roots?” As harsh as that may read, its true, and applies to all weaved styles. Those of us with natural hair who have had braid and twist disasters know! Coarse or kinkier textured hair won’t be as durable with certain widths of box braids, because the width of the braid matching your natural hair is essential for it to last. The same can be said for those with silkier textured hair - marley twists won’t work because they won’t hold properly...in other words, your natural hair will come out of the twists. Just because we like the style, doesn’t mean it will work with us because all of our hair is different, natural or not. If your stylist suggests a certain braid or twist style for you, take his/her advice.

1.How long does it take to do Passion Twist

Passion twist it's a really pretty hairstyle I've been wearing mine for about a month Now I'll give you a close-up of what those look like a little bit later but they don't actually take that long. Now some people may look at it and be like oh my gosh that looks complicated it looks like it takes a long time to do it.Really doesn't it takes about the same amount of time that it takes for me to do my Marly twists if you've watched my passion to a tutorial. I do have a toddler so I can't give you a straight amount of time amount of hours that it takes me to do them.Just because I take a lot of breaks but it didn't take me significantly longer than my marley twists which I've done two or three times now.So the good thing about it is that this hair at all it already comes curly so it's not like a senegalese twist where you have to twist the hair.Once you kind of like twisted and if you twist it firmly enough it comes out perfectly.Don't shy away from doing this style Because you think it takes long cuz it really doesn't

    • 2.How many packs of passion twist takes.

What you need to know is that it takes a lot of packs of hair.Okay especially if you're using the Free Tress water with the same pack that I was not expecting to use nine packs of hair. But I did have to end up using nine packs of hair.Usually when I'm doing my Marly twists I use about seven packs And with this Passion Twist I bought eight packs just to be safe and just to have a few extras you know to touch up.If I wanted to and I needed nine in the end so definitely be prepared for that.

    • 3.How much does it cost?

You can buy it a at toyotress.com or Amazon(Toyotress Store), only 34.99 for 6 pack

    passion twist

    • 4.How long it lasts.

Now this hair does not last or should say this hair style does not last that long because the hair is curly. It frizzes up really easily so see if I can get a close-up here and show you so on camera it doesn't really look at that bad but in real life you can see How frizzy it's gotten and it's not bad.But the hairstyle is meant to be a little bit more like shiny and like smooth and nice. It's not really one of those hairstyles where you can get away with the frizz like working in your favor. It's just basically going to look old and because the actual hair that you're using and the pack their curls are not like supposed to look frizzy in this way like. It's just not so I would say that the hairstyles gonna last you about a month if you stretch it longer than that then maybe you can just bun it or do different hairstyles stuff with it.But after a month like right now it's pretty much run its course throughout my time of having it I have touched up the front .so I just took out the front redid them re twist them and so you know the parts were a little bit more clean again and it was a little bit more tight in the Front. But other than that the actual hair itself won't last that it won't last longer than a month. But you can prolong it a little bit you can do certain things to keep it.One thing that you can do is reapply mousse once every few days to keep the frizz at bay to keep the shine it also loses its shine and its luster after a while so you can take the mousse that you use to set it in the first place and you can just keep applying that after a few days.Another thing that you can do is pineapple your hair at night or sleep with a satin bonnet that's something I didn't do.To be honest the 1 of like in protective hairstyle mode I'm kind of slack with my hair routine like I'm not gonna lie um I'm not really trying to sleep with satin bonnet but my satin bonnet can't even fit all of this hair under it.So what I would do is just pineapple it I just put everything on top and you know threw it in a pineapple and slept with it.

    • 5.The last thing you do not have to be an expert to do this hairstyle

If you watch my passion twist tutorial seriously you already know it's not that hard.I did those passion twist for the very first time that was my very first time doing it and filming the tutorial and sending it off and showing you guys. It's not that hard to do so don't think that you know I've never done twist because I've never done for a protective style because anything like that you can do this hairstyle.Once you master the technique of how to attach the hair at the root you can do any twist style that you want and you can definitely do this hairstyle. So don't think that it's complicated and it's hard it's gonna be a little bit of a challenge your first time but you can get through it and you can come out with a full head of passion twist in the end. So believe in yourself and believe that you can do it because I believe that you can do it and I know that you could do it. If you do with the passion twist hairstyle please tag me on Instagram if you do it after watching my tutorial please tag me on Instagram so I can see what your passion twist look like.

    How To Stretch Braiding Hair

    How To Stretch Braiding Hair

I have noticed a lot of you asking me individual questions on my prepping process so I will be starting a series of videos where I will break down each step and why it is important. Most of these steps are optional, or as I stated in the video, they may have alternatives. Hope you guys enjoy and learn! Please leave a comment below on any other individual steps in the box braid or feed in process that you would like me to better explain.

    pre-stretched braiding hair

The truth will set you free the fresh little piss you off hey guys.so jumping right in i am starting off with a fresh pack of braiding hair and if you have ever had an issue with your braids unraveling at the end then this video is perfect for you.

Because this is the first and most important step in prepping braiding hair for any type of braided hairstyles that i do and as you can see here without feathering the hair. The hair tends to unravel when it gets to the ends and it does not so well at all and so i'm showing you.the difference between a non feathered braid and a feathered braid to feather.the hair i'm gonna hold it loosely in my hand and i am pulling strands at the bottom of the hair and basically.

    pre-stretched braiding hair

What does this is gonna do is kind of create a feathered look towards the end of the braid making it kind of staggered and uneven.so that when you are braiding all the way to the end your braid will hold a lot better as you are completing this process is super important that you finger detangle the hair as you go. Because you will notice that the hair kind of tangles up as you pull those strands so you just want to finger detangle and then you continue pulling min a real time.this step takes me about five minutes to complete and some people choose to do this as you go but i found that it saves me a lot of time.if i complete this prior to starting the braided hairstyle also now the way the game is set up you can buy pre-stretched braiding hair.so if you are someone who wants to skip this step off together because not gonna lie it's annoying as then i would definitely recommend a pre-layered braiding hair or pre-stretched braiding hair for you and this is the finished look of the feathered hair.so you could see in comparison some.when we started it is staggered at the bottom and i did not even lose a lot of hair.so in this process you should not be losing a lot of hair which is why it's important that you finger detangle as you go so any time you pull a piece of hair from this

Bunch.now it should be feathered which you guys can see here hope you guys enjoyed this video i will be giving you guys more prepping tips make sure you guys like comment subscribe and i will check you guys in my next video.
